From Caledon to Ottawa: Parliament Press Conference - Illegal Truck Yards and Unqualified Drivers

The Caledon Community Road Safety Advocacy (CCRSA) has worked tirelessly to shine a light on two issues that continue to threaten the safety of our communities: the growth of illegal truck yards and the increasing number of unqualified commercial truck drivers operating on Ontario's roads.
What began as a local concern has now become a national conversation.
We were honoured to have the opportunity to bring these concerns directly to Parliament in Ottawa. Speaking before Members of Parliament was an important milestone—not only for CCRSA, but for every resident who has raised their voice about road safety, illegal land use, environmental damage, and the need for stronger oversight of the trucking industry.
These are not isolated issues. Illegal truck yards impact neighbourhoods, farmland, waterways, and municipal infrastructure. They often operate without proper approvals or environmental safeguards, while communities are left dealing with noise, pollution, traffic congestion, and road safety concerns.
At the same time, Canadians are increasingly concerned about commercial vehicle safety. Proper training, licensing, and accountability are essential to ensuring that every truck driver operating on our roads is qualified to do so safely. Professional truck drivers deserve an industry that values high standards and fair competition, while the public deserves confidence that safety comes first.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to MP Xavier Barsalou-Duval for recognizing the seriousness of these issues and for providing CCRSA with the opportunity to present our concerns at the federal level.
We also thank MP Kyle Seeback for bringing our concerns forward and helping ensure these important issues were heard by Members of Parliament.
Thank you as well to MP Dan Albas, who listened attentively to our concerns, asked thoughtful questions, and acknowledged the importance of addressing these challenges.
Their willingness to listen and ensure these community concerns were heard in Ottawa demonstrates the importance of collaboration between residents and elected officials. Meaningful change begins when governments are prepared to listen to the people directly affected.
This Is Only the Beginning
Bringing these issues to Parliament is not the end of our work—it is another important step forward.
CCRSA remains committed to working with all levels of government, industry partners, enforcement agencies, and community members to improve road safety, strengthen oversight, and advocate for practical solutions that protect both communities and responsible members of the trucking industry.
Real change takes persistence. Every meeting, every presentation, every conversation, and every supporter helps move us closer to safer roads and stronger enforcement.
Together, we can ensure that community safety remains at the forefront of transportation policy in Canada.
