Ontario Legislature - MPP Jennifer French

A Step Forward!

December 12, 2024 was a significant day for our community as our voices resonated in the halls of the Ontario Legislature! A heartfelt thank you to MPP Jennifer French, Critic for Highways, Infrastructure, and Transportation, for engaging in a meaningful discussion with us and agreeing to present our petition in the legislature.

In a time where digital petitions are commonplace, the Province still requires hard-copy signatures, and despite the challenges posed by the postal strike, we ensured our petition reached its destination. This petition is a reflection of our shared commitment to improving road safety and addressing illegal truck yard issues in Caledon.

What Our Petition Advocates

Our petition outlines critical steps to safeguard our community:

1. Protecting Land Use Integrity:

The ability to barricade entrances to lands being used without proper zoning.

Increasing fines for violations and attaching these fines to the title of the property to ensure accountability.

2. Enhancing Truck Safety Measures:

Increased Ministry of Transportation presence at inspection stations.

Establishing new inspection stations and conducting more mobile and surprise inspections.

3. Improving Truck Driver Training:

Returning the responsibility for truck driver training and licensing to the Ministry of Transportation.

Introducing an apprenticeship program to ensure drivers are adequately prepared before operating independently.

These measures, many of which our Mayor has previously requested, aim to restore safety and order to our roads and community.

What’s Next

This is just the beginning. We are steadfast in our advocacy for Caledon, and this step forward only fuels our determination. At every level—Town, Regional, and now Provincial—we have the attention of decision-makers. But the journey doesn’t stop here.

We’re calling on neighboring municipalities and regions to join this cause. Together, we can amplify our voices and push for meaningful changes that will benefit not only Caledon but communities across Ontario.

Your Voice Matters

We encourage everyone in our community to continue sharing suggestions and concerns. Now is the time to make your voice heard. Whether through petitions, meetings, or conversations, every effort contributes to the momentum we are building.

Let’s take our town back—together.

Stay engaged, stay hopeful, and let’s keep pushing for a safer, stronger Caledon.
